ASSIGNMENT PROCEDURES
Assignments will be given on a regular basis and must be completed on the due date assigned. ALL ASSIGNMENTS MUST BE COMPLETED to receive course credit.
~ All assignments are due on the date stated. If you CHOOSE not to hand in an assignment on the due date, no subsequent assignment will be marked until the previous assignment is completed and submitted.
~ Late assignments will lose 10% on the first day and 20% on the second day. If after two days, the assignment has not been submitted, an automatic zero will be given. No exceptions will be made without a prior parental/guardian note explaining the circumstances.
~ DO NOT ask for an extension for an assignment on the due date.
~ Assignment expectations: double spaced, (title page and proper citation if asked for), written in blue or black INK but preferably typed in size 12 font.
~ All assignments are encouraged to be handed in electronically (save some paper!).

Extra Help:
Extra help is limited as this is a VERY condensed course. Speak to me if you have questions.
School Based Mark:
Tests/Quizzes = 50%
Assignments/Projects = 20%
Homework / Participation = 20%
Final Exam = 10%
Total 100%
** Although there is no provincial exam, the course material remains the same and you will be expected to learn the material that would normally be covered on the provincial exam. There will be a final exam in this course that will be less intense than the provincial, but it will account for 10% of your grade. More details will be provided closer to the date.
Expectations: Courtesy – Respect – Responsibility
Here are a few expectations and requirements for the course. Please ask if you are unsure about any of the following:
1. BE ON TIME: Classes begin promptly. A punctual learner is a successful one (and a respectful one).
2. HOMEWORK: If you focus in class and work hard, you should have limited homework. At this grade, if you don’t do it, you know the consequences! Quiz and test questions come from topics discussed in class and directly from your homework questions, so study up!
3. FOOD and DRINK: Food and drink (except H20) will not be permitted in the classroom. This is not just my rule, this is the Summer School rules since we are borrowing someone's classroom.
4. EXTRA HELP: I’m always willing to help you out but you need to understand this is a very condensed course and so you need to come and discuss with me if you have problems.
5. PARTICIPATION: This is expected and required for a successful class. You need to be active to learn!
6. MISSED CLASS: VERY important for this course since it is already condensed for Summer School. CHECK THE WEBSITE or find out from a classmate what you have missed. If a student is absent, he/she needs a DATED written note explaining his/her absence. The parental/guardian note MUST be presented on the first day of the student’s return. STUDENTS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO MAKE UP MISSED WORK WITHOUT THIS NOTE. If 3 classes are missed, you will be asked to leave the class.
7. TESTS: Advance notice will be given for all major tests. To aid in review, quizzes are provided for key topics from each chapter in your textbook. If you miss a test, you will be expected to write it the first day back at school.
8. WASHROOM: Please ask to go but don’t abuse the system, and only one person at a time. Choose an appropriate moment in the class to leave.
9. EXPECTATIONS: I’m really big on respect. If you have a question, please raise your hand. In return, I promise to listen carefully and seriously to your ideas and comments.
10. WORK HANDED IN: I prefer work handed in via email (when applicable). If you hand in work that is not up to standard, you will be asked to resubmit.
11. ATTENDANCE: Due to the time constraints and the amount of material we have to cover, regular attendance is mandatory. As a general rule it would be wise to contact me if you are going to be absent.
12. USE OF TECHNOLOGY: This is a "Use until you abuse" system. I encourage use of technology in learning IF it is indeed aiding in your learning. I will let you know when you can use technology in the class. If you abuse the system, there will be NO technology used. Your fate is in your own hands! **Note: Summer school policy is all cellphones must be put away in your bag unless/until you are given permission to take them out. No exceptions.
